Smell Ya Later 2015!

Hello fellow earthlings!

We hope the holiday season has found you well.  As we finish out the year we'd like to thank all those who've supported or taken interest in what we do here.  Thanks to all those who've rocked out with us and those that rocked our faces off.  For the final post of there year here's a few tidbits of info worth mentioning.

If you somehow avoided the fanfare this past month take a gander at NR-052, the 7th installment of our annual Holiday Compilation.  It features a lot of great new music from friends both new and old.

NR-053, our last release of 2015, came in just under the wire.  The much anticipated, second full length from Hides A Well is now available for digi-download.  Check it out and let us know what you think.

That's more or less all the news fit to print this year.  We'll see you all in 2016.  It's going to be a good year.  We've got another ep from Hides A Well,  a full length and an ep from Please Exist (as well as a long overdue 7") and lots more. Maybe even a new comp or two.  Until then have yourselves a happy and safe holiday.  Be kind and take care.

- J.T.F.

p.s. one of the more recent musical acts that rocked our faces off is a group called Dollys.  We highly recommend them!

CALLING ALL MUSICIANS/BANDS!

Howdy everybody,

Welcome to fall 2015.  We at NotRock are excited to finally be in the zone where we can all wear long pants, sweaters, and scarves without suffering from heatstroke.  We are also dealing with the harsh reality of bracing ourselves for the inevitable frost ridden impact that winter will soon be bringing.  The good news is that along with the approaching ice age, the holiday season will again be upon us and with that will come the 7th annual NotRock Holiday Compilation!

For those unfamiliar, as aforementioned, this will be the 7th year NotRock will be putting together a fun filled compilation of songs having to do with various winter holidays and or the winter season in general.   These compilations will be released digitally as well as in COMPACT DISC format!  Having said all that, consider this post our 7th annual plea for holiday compilation content.  All genres of music are welcome!  That means YOU!  We want your songs!!!  Original songs and covers are both welcome; however covers must be approved first to avoid duplicates.

All songs must be finished and sent in by November 15th. We will put together the CDs and distribute them in the beginning of December (usually at a release show) so everyone has time to enjoy them before the holidays are over.

If you'd like to participate in this epic compilation send your song submissions (in either WAV of AIFF format) to notrockrecords@gmail.com We look forward to hearing your music. For examples of previous years compilations check out notrockrecords.bandcamp.com

In other NotRock related news, Please Exist is still hard at work recording their second LP entitled "Slow Dance To The Apocalypse".  To date all the instruments have been tracked and the majority of vocals are completed.  Only four of the twelve songs remain.  The record should be very near, if not absolutely complete by the end of the year.  In the interim Please Exist promises us an new track for the Holiday Comp and T-Shirts by the end of 2015.  Keep your eyes peeled folks.

Hides A Well has also been very hard at work finishing up their second LP.  All the major elements are in place with just some minor additional tracking to remain.  In addition Hides are working on some additional new material for the Holiday Comp and a new EP that will be due out the beginning of 2016.  So expect a lot of new material from that band very soon. On that subject,  in very exciting news,  Hides A Well's very own Bryan Kwasnik is publishing his first book!  "The Jellyfish Monster" will be available in the coming months and for the low price of $12.95 you can pre-order a signed copy here from Bryan's author page.  Get on it!

Lastly, we will leave you with some intel from the local scene.  We just learned the wonderful news that our comrades, Hell Mary, have just dropped their new LP.   Dropped like a giant ferocious 10 song atom bomb.  Over the last couple years Hell Mary have gone through a few shifts in their line up but have never fallen short of releasing great and intense hardcore.   Their first full length is no exception.  We at NotRock like our hardcore LOUD, INTENSE, and ANGRY.  That's exactly what Hell Mary has given us in spades with their self titled LP.  We cannot recommend this enough for fans of the band or fans of hardcore in general.  Check it out immediately!

Ok kiddies that's all the news we have for this lovely month.  Join us next month where we will posting our favorite recipes for turkey, stuffing and all the trimmings.   Maybe.  Anyway until then be kind, take care, and start recording some content for this years holiday comp!

P.S. Chapter 4 of John's movie Fallout Chronicles has also been officially released. Here it is with  new sound mix and finished visual FX. Check it out!

HEY EVERYBODY!!!!!!!!!

Well it sure has been a long time hasn't it?  What the hell has been going on that it's taken so long for a current page update? The answer is life, mixed with other ambitions, mixed with forgetfulness, mixed with slight laziness.  The good news is that WE'RE STILL HERE!  Even though we don't always get the chance to do updates as frequently as we would like, (we need an intern) that doesn't mean people haven't been hard at work creating great stuff for you to enjoy.  Here's some great stuff you've missed out on the last couple months; there's some fabulous news updates peppered in this post as well.

First up is the just released NR-051, the new EP "Another Failure" from HIDES A WELL.  This fine nugget of music is a collection of four new songs and four old demos that were found in the archives.  While we're on this subject, it pleases us to announce that in the last few months, Hides A Well has begun aggressively recording their next full length album.  Most of all the instrumentation has been tracked and production on vocals has begun.  Thus far everything is coming along just swimmingly.  With eleven or so tracks that the band is quite proud of, this LP is sure to be a fantastic follow up to "From A Safe Distance".  We'll keep you updated as this record progresses.  Here's hoping we get a cardboard sequel video to Secret Sitcoms with this new release.

Next in the queue is Please Exist.  Despite having very little tangible output to date, this band will not stop.  They continue to write songs that propel their sound forward and challenge themselves musically.    Back in January they began recording their second full length (the first one is stuck in limbo hell) at the great Missile Silo Studios.  Over a few sessions they completed all the drum and guitar tracks for 12 songs! Vocal sessions to begin the first weekend in August.  Everything sounds super epic and it's not even close to being done yet!  In addition to that record Please Exist continues to write songs that will be recorded soon for an EP also due out this year.  Their two song 7" is still expected for release in the very near future.  Updates will be posted as per.

Ok here's some other stuff you may have missed from our friends and associates in the last few months.

Back in February the legendary Adam Kaniper dropped this completely unexpected 4 song bomb on the world.  The heavy, mathy craziness of PERMANENT TENSION is absolutely perfect and brilliant.  The EP is titled "Laughing My Face Off" but it will more than likely blow your face off.  For the people out there making generic cookie cutter hardcore music "Laughing My Face Off" is a lesson in how to not make something like that.  Take this lesson please.

Our dear friend Young Legs recently released a fantastic collection of songs that compiles all the tunes recorded for and released on various compilations over the last few years.  NotRock had the privilege of releasing many of these songs and we are just as proud of them as ever.  Beautiful, beautiful music that's not to be missed.

Oh Control, where to begin…  CONTROL is one of those legendary bands that we've been so happy to have known since their inception.  It's been great to watch and occasionally be a part of their musical journey over the last few years.  For awhile it seemed like we may never get new music from this fantastic band but May of 2015 rolled around and here it is!  Four songs worthy of their already impressively catchy, rocking catalogue of music makes up one half of a split LP with newcomers ENTIA.  Before we get to them check out the Control side!

Self proclaimed presidents of rock ENTIA have launched their debut on the backside of the aforementioned split with Control.  Recorded by James Theesfeld and mastered by J. Robbins, contained here are five tunes of mathy, heavy, rocking weirdness that are sure to wet the appetite of at least a few people.  Check it out.  And while we're on the subject of ENTIA here's a video they made with Eric Michael Roman:

Ok kiddies that post should get us back on track for a bit.  That's all we've got for this month. See you back here in 30 (hopefully) where maybe we'll have some new info on the long planned, tedious, NotRock databasing effort that is well underway.  As we part ways we leave you with this fun music video John shot, directed and edited for out good friend Pat Llewellyn.  Until next time…

Be kind and take care,

- J.T.F.
